We are monitoring changing regulations regarding controlled substances and will have an update closer to DEA’s expected update in Nov 2024. This will pertain ONLY to patients who require treatment with controlled substances such as stimulants and benzodiazepines AND have not had any in-person visits at our practice. For now, we continue as usual until then.

60 minutes
This is the first visit for all patients even if you already had care elsewhere. The highlight of this visit is an opportunity to conduct a comprehensive review of your current concerns and of your background. We will learn of your medical history and order labs to uncover underlying medical causes of your symptoms; past psychiatric history and treatment; family history to explore genetic contributions; current events in your life and your social history including daily routine. We may order pharmacokinetic or genetic testing if suffering from severe side effects or uncover other reasons they may be beneficial. By the end of the initial consultation or sometimes the second visit I will offer my preliminary impressions, and we will discuss your treatment options. One of the most important curative aspects of a therapeutic relationship is the goodness-of-fit. This visit is your opportunity to determine for yourself if we are a good fit. After your decisions, we may establish a treatment relationship.

We believe that effective treatment for mental health-related concerns and psychiatric illness goes beyond the use of medications by itself. While we utilize psychiatric medications when indicated, we strive to incorporate a variety of other interventions to improve mental wellness including treating any underlying medical issues; talk therapy; vitamins and supplements; exercise and yoga; nutritional and dietary changes; meditation, etc. When medications are used, we aim to balance their use for quick resolution of symptoms initially with the goal of using the least required effective dose.

We analyze your genes to make predictions on how your body may break down medications commonly prescribed to treat depression, anxiety, ADHD, and other psychiatric conditions. or affect your body. The test is a simple cheek swab taken in your healthcare provider’s office or can be sent by your doctor to be taken in the convenience of your home.
